The BALAX 13148-010 is an extension thread forming tap designed for cutting 5/16-18 UNC internal threads in applications where standard-length taps cannot reach. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap features a bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it is suited for use in ductile metals including aluminum, brass, and mild steel.
