The BALAX 12025-010 is a thread forming extension tap designed for cutting internal threads in applications where standard-length taps cannot reach. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it produces a 10-24 UNC thread to a H5 thread limit with a bottoming chamfer for threading close to the base of a blind hole. At 4 inches overall length with a 7/8 inch thread length, this tap is suited for production and maintenance machining where extended reach is required. Class of fit covers both 2B and 3B tolerances, making it versatile across common fastener applications.
The 12025-010 is used in metalworking and manufacturing environments where threading operations require access to recessed or deep-set holes. Its right-hand flute direction and bottoming chamfer make it appropriate for through-holes and blind holes alike when full thread depth near the bottom is needed. The extension body length accommodates setups on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual tapping operations where workpiece geometry or fixturing limits tool access. It is suitable for use by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working in light to medium manufacturing.
Designed as a replacement or supplemental tooling option for 10-24 UNC thread forming applications requiring an extension-length tap in the BXEXT series. Confirm machine spindle compatibility and tap holder chuck capacity before use.
Thread forming taps require proper lubrication matched to the workpiece material to prevent galling and premature wear. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the hole axis before engagement to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. Use a calibrated torque-limiting tap handle or tapping head when possible, especially in blind-hole applications. This tool should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or technicians familiar with tapping procedures and speeds appropriate to the workpiece material.
