The BALAX 11965-01T is a thread forming tap designed for producing 10-24 UNC internal threads without cutting chips. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bottoming tap is built for blind hole threading applications where full thread depth close to the bottom of the bore is required. The TiN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in production environments. With a thread limit of H5 and a class of fit covering 2B and 3B, it delivers consistent, precise threads suited to fastener-grade assemblies. Machinists and maintenance technicians working in light fabrication, metalworking, and repair operations will find this tap suited to hand tapping and machine tapping setups alike.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in materials compatible with thread forming rather than thread cutting, meaning no chips are produced during the forming process. It belongs to BALAX series BXB and is appropriate for right-hand thread applications in ductile metals such as aluminum, brass, and low-carbon steel. The bottoming chamfer provides approximately 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing the tap to form threads very close to the bottom of a blind hole. It is a practical choice for production shops and field maintenance teams requiring reliable 10-24 UNC thread formation in confined bore depths.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct procurement option for 10-24 UNC bottoming thread forming taps in the H5 thread limit and 2B/3B class of fit range, compatible with standard tap holders and collets accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with thread forming operations. Always ensure the workpiece material is ductile enough for thread forming rather than thread cutting before use. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil to the tap and workpiece prior to operation, and power down or de-energize any machine tool before inserting or removing the tap from the holder. Do not use this tap in brittle materials such as cast iron, as thread forming requires material flow rather than chip removal.
