The BALAX 11304-000 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 6-32 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form the thread profile by displacing material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger threads and no chip generation. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and carries a Class 3B fit with an H4 thread limit. It features a plug chamfer with 4 chamfered threads for easy starting. With an overall length of 2 inches and a shank diameter of 0.141 inches, it is sized for standard tap handles and machine tapping chucks. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance professionals install this tap in production and repair environments.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in materials that respond well to cold forming, including low-carbon steel, aluminum, brass, and similar ductile metals. The plug chamfer style makes it suitable for both hand tapping and machine tapping in through-hole configurations where thread engagement depth is adequate. The BXP series designation indicates it is built to BALAX forming tap specifications for controlled thread limits in precision assembly work.
Designed as an OEM-style thread forming tap for through-hole 6-32 UNC applications in standard tap handles and machine tapping equipment accepting a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps require a specific drill size larger than standard tap drill charts for cutting taps - consult BALAX or the appropriate forming tap drill chart for the correct hole diameter before use. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for thread forming to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and ensure the tap is driven straight to avoid thread misalignment or tap breakage. This tap is intended for ductile materials only and is not suitable for cast iron or other brittle substrates.
