The BALAX 10724-010 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 4-40 UNC internal threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this forming tap displaces material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger threads and no chips to clear from the hole. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it carries a Thread Limit of H4 and fits Class 2B and 3B applications. The bottoming chamfer - 2.5 threads of lead - allows threading to the bottom of a blind hole. Licensed machinists and precision fabricators working in light metals and plastics are the primary users of this tap series.
