The BALAX 02610-000 is a thread forming pipe tap designed to cut NPTF-standard internal pipe threads in malleable and ductile materials without producing chips. Built from high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap cold-forms 3/4-14 threads by displacing material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger thread walls and longer-lasting connections. The overall length is 3.25 inches, with a thread length of 1.375 inches and a shank diameter of 0.315 inches. It is suited for use by pipefitters, plumbers, and machinists working on threaded pipe connections in production or field service environments.
This tap is intended for use in soft metals including aluminum and copper, where thread forming produces clean, accurate NPTF pipe threads. The 3/4-14 thread size is a common specification for pipe fittings in plumbing, HVAC, and fluid conveyance systems. With a square size of 0.679 inches and a square length of 0.6875 inches, this tap is compatible with standard tap wrenches and machine holders. It belongs to the BXPT series from BALAX, which is engineered for thread forming in non-ferrous pipe applications.
Rated for use in aluminum and copper material applications. Designed as an OEM-style thread forming pipe tap for 3/4-14 NPTF internal pipe thread applications in non-ferrous materials.
Thread forming taps require appropriate cutting fluid or tapping lubricant suited to the workpiece material - use aluminum-rated lubricant when tapping aluminum stock. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and align the tap perpendicular to the entry hole to avoid thread distortion. Thread forming generates higher torque than cut tapping, so use a tap wrench or machine holder rated for the load. Always verify the pilot hole diameter against the manufacturer specification for the thread form and material before starting.
