The BALAX 01302-010 is a thread forming tap designed for cutting M1.2x0.25 metric coarse internal threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this forming tap displaces material rather than removing chips, producing stronger threads with a superior surface finish. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and carries an H2 thread limit for tight tolerance work. At 1.625 inches overall length with a 0.25-inch thread length and a 0.141-inch shank diameter, this tap is built for precision threading in small-diameter workpieces. Machinists and tool and die makers working in production or maintenance environments are the primary users.
This tap is suited for bottoming applications where threads must extend close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 2.5-thread chamfer allows it to engage near the floor of the hole with minimal clearance. It is used in metalworking operations involving small metric fastener threads, including electronics enclosures, instrument housings, and precision mechanical assemblies where M1.2 threads are specified. Right-hand thread direction is standard. The BXMIN series designation indicates this is part of BALAX's miniature thread forming line, appropriate for light-duty materials where chip-free forming is preferred.
Designed for forming M1.2x0.25 metric coarse right-hand internal threads in blind hole configurations, consistent with BXMIN series miniature thread forming tap applications in ductile metals and soft alloys.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming hole - consult a thread forming drill chart for the correct pre-tap hole diameter for M1.2x0.25 before use. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil to reduce friction and extend tap life. Use a calibrated tap wrench or CNC tapping cycle with controlled feed to avoid tap breakage at this small diameter. Always clear the work area and secure the workpiece before tapping operations.
