The AXIS COMMUNICATIONS 5801-641 is an Ethernet surge protector designed to safeguard network-connected devices from voltage transients and electrical surges on data lines. It installs inline on an Ethernet run between a switch or PoE injector and a connected device such as an IP camera or access control reader. The unit is sold individually and is appropriate for any installation where unprotected cable runs are exposed to surge risk, including outdoor camera deployments or runs through areas with high lightning or ground-fault exposure. Security system technicians and low-voltage installers are the primary trades handling this component.
The 5801-641 is intended for use in CCTV and IP surveillance infrastructure where Ethernet cabling connects cameras, encoders, or similar field devices back to a distribution point. It is suited for both new installations and retrofit applications where existing cable runs lack surge protection. Installations in commercial, industrial, and outdoor residential environments benefit from inline surge protection on every exposed Ethernet segment.
Designed as an OEM-style surge protection device for use within Ethernet-based CCTV and IP camera installations requiring inline transient voltage protection on data lines.
Installation is performed by licensed low-voltage or security system technicians following applicable local codes and NEC guidelines for data cabling and surge protection. Power down or de-energize any PoE source before connecting or disconnecting the surge protector from the Ethernet run. Verify polarity and connector seating before restoring power to the circuit. Do not install this device on circuits exceeding its rated parameters.
