The ASSOCIATED SPRING RAYMOND 103-740 is a medium-duty die spring designed for use in stamping dies, punch presses, and tooling fixtures. It features a trapezoidal wire profile that delivers a higher load capacity per unit of compressed length compared to round-wire springs. The 103-740 has a 1-1/2 inch hole diameter, a 3/4 inch rod diameter, and a 10 inch free length. It carries a maximum deflection load of 500 pounds and allows up to 5 inches of maximum deflection at a spring rate of 106 pounds per inch. Constructed from chromium alloy steel, it is suited for demanding press tooling environments where consistent force and long cycle life are required.
This spring is a direct fit for standard die sets used in metal stamping, forming, and blanking operations in industrial manufacturing facilities. The blue color coding follows the ISO 10243 standard convention for medium-duty die springs, making it easy to identify load class during tooling setup and maintenance. It is typically installed and serviced by tool and die makers, maintenance machinists, and industrial technicians working on hydraulic or mechanical press tooling. The 1-1/2 inch hole diameter and 3/4 inch rod diameter suit common die post and rod configurations found in both prototype and production tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit die spring for standard medium-duty stamping die sets using a 1-1/2 inch hole diameter and 3/4 inch rod diameter configuration.
Installation is typically performed by tool and die makers or maintenance machinists during die build or scheduled tooling maintenance. Always relieve all press pressure and lock out the press ram before removing or replacing die springs. Inspect the mating die post and rod dimensions to confirm they match the 1-1/2 inch hole and 3/4 inch rod specifications before installation. Do not exceed the rated maximum deflection of 5 inches, as over-compression will reduce service life and may cause spring failure.
