The ASC ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS 362172405 is a forged steel socketweld reducing coupling rated at 3000 lb pressure class. It transitions between a 1-1/2 inch and 1-1/4 inch pipe run using socket weld end connections, making it suitable for high-pressure piping systems where a threaded connection is not appropriate. At 1.98 pounds, this compact fitting is designed for use in industrial and commercial piping applications. Licensed pipefitters and plumbers select this coupling when a reduction in pipe diameter is required within a welded piping system.
This reducing coupling is used in high-pressure process piping, steam lines, hydraulic systems, and industrial fluid distribution systems. The socketweld design requires the pipe to be inserted into the socket and fillet welded at the joint, producing a strong, leak-resistant connection. It is well suited for tight-space installations where a full butt-weld fitting is not practical. Applications span petrochemical, power generation, and commercial mechanical systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 3000 lb class socketweld forged steel piping systems using 1-1/2 inch by 1-1/4 inch pipe.
Installation should be performed by a qualified pipefitter or welder in accordance with applicable codes including ASME B31.1 or B31.3 as required by the system design. Isolate and depressurize the line and allow it to cool completely before cutting into existing pipe. The pipe end must be fully inserted to the socket stop before fillet welding to ensure a proper joint. Do not use this fitting in threaded configurations.
