The ARCAIR 2198-3003 is a plain, uncoated carbon-graphite gouging electrode designed for DC arc-air gouging operations. Unlike copper-clad electrodes, this pointed plain electrode carries no copper coating, eliminating any risk of copper contamination in the base material. This electrode is suited for general-purpose DC arc-air gouging in fabrication shops, field repair work, and maintenance welding applications. It is commonly used when copper contamination of the base material is a concern, such as on stainless steel, nickel alloys, or other contamination-sensitive substrates. The pointed tip geometry allows precise metal removal and groove initiation. Arc-air gouging is performed by qualified welders or metal fabricators following established safety procedures. Ensure the workpiece is properly grounded and the DC power source is set to the correct polarity and amperage range for the electrode diameter before starting. Wear appropriate PPE including a welding helmet, leather gloves, and hearing protection, as arc-air gouging produces significant noise, sparks, and molten metal ejection. Compressed air supply to the torch should be confirmed and sufficient before striking the arc.
