The APPLETON SSP-50 is a 1/2 inch split coupling designed for joining conduit sections in electrical raceway installations. Split couplings allow electricians to make connections on fixed or in-place conduit runs without rotating either conduit section. The two-piece design closes around the conduit ends and fastens securely, maintaining a rigid, continuous raceway. At 0.2 pounds, the SSP-50 is lightweight and easy to handle in tight or elevated work areas. Licensed electricians and wiremen use this fitting in commercial and industrial conduit systems where standard one-piece couplings are not practical.
The SSP-50 is suited for 1/2 inch rigid or intermediate metal conduit (IMC) installations in commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical systems. It is particularly useful in retrofit and repair scenarios where conduit is already anchored, supported, or otherwise fixed and cannot be turned to thread a standard coupling. It fits into typical raceway system buildouts where maintaining conduit alignment without disassembly is a priority.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard split coupling fitting for 1/2 inch rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) raceway systems.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with NEC Article 344 for rigid metal conduit or Article 342 for intermediate metal conduit. De-energize all circuits in the affected raceway before beginning work. The split halves should be seated flush around clean, deburred conduit ends before fasteners are tightened evenly to ensure proper alignment and secure engagement. Do not overtighten fasteners or force misaligned conduit sections together.
