The APPLETON obv1 is a cast outlet box mounting hood designed for ceiling installation on hazardous location lighting fixtures. Constructed from ASTM A47-77 32510 malleable iron with a zinc electroplated dichromate epoxy powder coat finish, this mounting hood provides a durable, corrosion-resistant connection point between the outlet box and the luminaire. It ships complete with a connection block, mounting plate, and gasket. Listed under UL 844, UL 1598, and UL 1598A, the obv1 meets the classification requirements for Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C, and D; Class II Division 1 and 2 Groups E, F, and G; and Class III enclosures. Electricians and lighting contractors working in wet or classified hazardous locations specify this hood when mounting Mercmaster series fixtures to cast or standard outlet boxes.
The obv1 is intended for ceiling-mount applications in wet locations and NEC-classified hazardous environments. It is specifically used on Mercmaster Jr HID luminaires and the V51 Series incandescent lighting fixture from Appleton. Typical installations include industrial facilities, petrochemical plants, food processing areas, wastewater treatment sites, and other locations requiring listed wet-location or hazardous-location luminaire mounting hardware. The included gasket and mounting plate ensure a sealed, code-compliant assembly at the box interface.
Designed for use on the Appleton Mercmaster Jr HID luminaire and the V51 Series incandescent lighting fixture. Mounts to ceiling-type cast or outlet boxes.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician familiar with NEC Article 501, 502, and 503 requirements for hazardous locations. De-energize the circuit and verify the absence of voltage before beginning any work on the outlet box or luminaire. Ensure the mounting surface and outlet box are rated for the enclosure class required by the installation location. Verify the gasket is properly seated before final assembly to maintain the wet-location and hazardous-location integrity of the connection.
