The APPLETON IBC-400 is a 4-inch malleable insulating bushing designed to protect wire and cable insulation at conduit terminations. It threads onto the end of rigid metal conduit or intermediate metal conduit to create a smooth, insulated throat that prevents conductor insulation from being cut or abraded during pull-in. This type of bushing is a standard component in commercial and industrial electrical installations wherever conduit enters enclosures, panels, or junction boxes. Licensed electricians install this fitting as part of a code-compliant conduit termination.
The IBC-400 is suited for use on 4-inch rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) terminations in commercial, industrial, and utility electrical systems. Typical applications include service entrance conduit at switchboards and panelboards, feeder conduit entering motor control centers, and any large-diameter conduit run that terminates at an enclosure where conductor protection is required by the National Electrical Code.
Designed as an OEM-style fitting for 4-inch rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit terminations in standard threaded conduit systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician. De-energize all circuits and lock out the panel or enclosure before beginning conduit termination work. Thread the bushing onto the end of the conduit by hand and tighten with a strap wrench or conduit bushing wrench to seat it fully against the enclosure knockout. Refer to NEC Article 300 and Article 358 for applicable conduit termination and conductor protection requirements.
