The APPLETON GRUSE100 is an explosionproof conduit outlet box with union hub, designed for use in classified hazardous locations and harsh industrial environments. Part of the GRU Series UNILETS line, it provides a square, 29 cubic inch enclosure with three 1-inch hubs. Constructed from zinc electroplated, chromate and epoxy powder coated copper-free aluminum, this box resists corrosion while meeting the requirements of Class I Division 1 and 2 (Groups C and D) and Class II Division 1 and 2 (Groups E, F, and G) as well as Class III locations. It is UL 886 and CSA C22.2 listed. Licensed electricians and industrial maintenance crews install this box where conduit system integrity in flammable gas, vapor, or dust environments is required.
The GRUSE100 serves general-purpose wiring tasks in industrial and hazardous location installations. Its three 1-inch hubs allow technicians to pull wire, connect conduit lengths, and change conduit run direction from a single fitting. The union hub design simplifies wiring access and reduces time spent on conduit makeup. Each hub incorporates a smooth, rounded integral bushing to protect conductor insulation during pulls. This box is appropriate for refineries, chemical plants, grain handling facilities, wastewater treatment, and similar environments where explosive or ignitable atmospheres may be present.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for explosionproof conduit systems using 1-inch trade size conduit in Class I, Class II, and Class III hazardous locations.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) Article 501, 502, and 503 as applicable to the hazardous location classification. De-energize all circuits before opening or working inside the box. Ensure all conduit entries are made with listed explosionproof fittings and that covers are fully seated and secured before re-energizing. Do not use this box as a junction box for splices unless confirmed to have adequate cubic inch capacity for the conductors involved per NEC fill calculations.
