The APEX 06961N is a knife-profile hand file designed for precision material removal in tight grooves, slots, and V-shaped notches where standard flat files cannot reach. The blade profile tapers to a sharp edge on both sides, making it well suited for deburring, sharpening, and fitting close-tolerance work in steel, cast iron, and similar metals. This file carries a smooth cut, meaning it has the finest tooth pattern in the file-cut range, producing a refined surface finish with minimal stock removal per pass. The overall length is 10.13 inches, with an 8-inch cutting length, a width of 0.866 inches, and a thickness of 0.175 inches. It is sold without a handle.
This file is a standard shop and field tool for machinists, pipefitters, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electricians who need to clean up burrs, dress threads, fit gasket surfaces, or open slots in metal components. It is equally at home in a fabrication shop environment and in the field during installation or service work. The smooth cut makes it the right choice when the final surface condition matters and only light material removal is needed.
Designed as a general-purpose hand file for use on steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous metals in standard trade and shop applications.
Hand files are used by trade professionals and should be fitted with an appropriate handle before use to prevent injury from the tang. Secure the workpiece firmly in a vise before filing. Inspect the file for cracks or damage before each use, and never use a file as a pry bar or striking tool.
