The ANVIL 0362174807 is a forged carbon steel black reducing coupling designed for socket weld installations in high-pressure piping systems. It reduces a 2-inch line down to a 1/2-inch connection and is rated at 3000 psi. The black finish is standard for carbon steel fittings used in industrial and mechanical piping. This fitting meets ASME B16.11 dimensional standards and ASTM A105 and ASTM A182 material specifications, making it suitable for demanding pressure and temperature applications. Licensed pipefitters and mechanical contractors typically install this type of fitting in process piping, steam, gas, and hydraulic systems.
This reducing coupling is used in commercial and industrial piping applications where a threaded NPT connection is not preferred and a socket weld joint is required for greater integrity at elevated pressure. Typical installations include steam distribution, compressed gas lines, hydraulic systems, and process fluid piping. It is suited for both new construction and retrofit work where Class 3000 fittings are specified by the engineer of record or required by system pressure ratings.
Designed as an OEM-style socket weld reducing coupling for Class 3000 forged carbon steel piping systems conforming to ASME B16.11 dimensional requirements.
Installation of socket weld fittings must be performed by a qualified pipefitter or welder following applicable codes including ASME B31.1 or B31.3 as required by the system specification. The piping system must be fully depressurized and drained before cutting into an existing line. The pipe end should be inserted to the bottom of the socket bore and then backed out slightly before welding per standard socket weld procedure to allow for thermal expansion. Do not substitute this fitting in systems exceeding its rated pressure classification.
