The AMPROBE AMB-45 is a digital insulation resistance tester, also known as a megohmmeter, used to measure insulation integrity in electrical systems and equipment. It delivers a maximum test voltage of 1000 VDC and measures insulation resistance up to 4000 megohms. The digital LCD display gives clear, direct readings in the field. Powered by 1.5V AA batteries, it requires no external power source, making it practical for work at panels, motors, cables, and switchgear. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors are the primary users of this instrument.
The AMB-45 is suited for residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical work. It carries a CAT III safety rating, appropriate for testing at distribution-level circuits, fixed installation equipment, and building wiring. Common applications include motor winding insulation checks, cable testing after installation, and verifying insulation condition on aging equipment before commissioning or troubleshooting.
Designed as a general-purpose insulation resistance tester compatible with standard electrical test lead configurations used in commercial and residential electrical service work.
De-energize and lock out all circuits before connecting the AMB-45 to any wiring or equipment under test. Discharge capacitive loads fully prior to measurement to protect both the instrument and the technician. Installation and insulation testing should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with NFPA 70E and applicable NEC requirements. Store the instrument in the included carrying case when not in use to protect the test leads and accessories.
