The ALVORD POLK 10638 is a straight-shank chucking reamer machined from high speed steel and finished with a bright polished coating. It produces accurately sized holes in metal workpieces, removing a small amount of material to achieve a precise, smooth bore. The reamer measures 0.345 inches in diameter with an overall length of 6 inches and a flute length of 1.5 inches. Six straight flutes cut in the right-hand direction, delivering clean, consistent finishes in through-hole and blind-hole applications. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians select this style of reamer for production and maintenance work where tight bore tolerances are required.
This chucking reamer is suited for use in drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers where the shank is held in a standard chuck or collet. It is appropriate for ferrous and non-ferrous metals in both job-shop and production environments. The bright finish reduces built-up edge and aids chip evacuation during moderate-speed reaming passes. Typical applications include sizing holes for press-fit pins, bushings, and close-tolerance fasteners in light manufacturing and maintenance-repair-operations settings.
Designed as a standard straight-shank chucking reamer for use in any machine tool equipped with a compatible chuck or collet accepting a straight shank at the specified diameter.
Chucking reamers are installed and operated by machinists on machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, or machining centers. Secure the straight shank firmly in a chuck or collet before use and verify that the workpiece is clamped to prevent movement. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing or adjusting the tool. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain bore quality.
