The ALVORD POLK 10281 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built to Series 897-A-S specifications, it features a 0.1670-inch diameter with a tight tolerance of +0.0002 to 0.0000 inches, ensuring accurate, repeatable bore sizing. The straight, 6-flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction deliver smooth material removal with minimal chatter. At 4.5 inches overall length with a 1.125-inch flute length and straight-cylindrical shank, this reamer seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians reach for this style of reamer when a drilled hole needs to be brought to a precise finished diameter.
The 10281 is suited for light to medium reaming operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials in job shop, production, and maintenance-repair environments. The bright, uncoated HSS construction makes it straightforward to resharpen when edge life is exhausted. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill press chucks, CNC machining center tool holders, and manual lathe tailstock chucks without adapters in the appropriate collet size range.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in standard drill press chucks, lathe tailstocks, and CNC tool holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.1670-inch diameter class.
Chucking reamers are installed by machinists in accordance with standard shop practice and applicable safety procedures. Always bring the workpiece hole to the correct pre-reamed diameter before using the reamer, and ensure the machine spindle and workholding are properly aligned to avoid bell-mouthing or tool deflection. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend edge life and improve finish quality. Inspect the shank seating in the chuck or collet before operation to confirm secure clamping.
