The ALVORD POLK 03014 is a solid pilot counterbore designed for precision counterboring operations in metalworking and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool delivers consistent cutting performance in forward-direction drilling setups. The 0.346-inch counterbore diameter pairs with an oversize 0.221-inch pilot diameter to guide the tool accurately into pre-drilled holes. A straight-cylindrical shank measuring 0.2812 inches fits standard drill press and milling machine chucks. At 5.25 inches overall length, the tool provides adequate reach for a range of workpiece depths. Machinists and tool and die tradespeople rely on this style of counterbore for creating flat-bottomed recesses that seat fastener heads flush or below the workpiece surface.
This counterbore is sized for compatibility with 10-32 fillister-head screws, making it a practical tool for precision assemblies where fillister-head fasteners must sit fully recessed. It suits job shop, maintenance, and production machining environments where consistent counterbore geometry is required. Typical applications include fixture building, machine component assembly, and repair work on threaded fastener installations. The oversize pilot aids in clean hole entry and reduces chatter during the counterboring pass.
Designed for use with 10-32 fillister-head screws. Fits standard drill press chucks and milling machine collets accepting a 0.2812-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling professional familiar with drill press or milling machine operation. Secure the workpiece firmly before beginning the counterboring pass, and ensure the pilot hole is pre-drilled to the correct diameter before use. Run at appropriate speeds for the workpiece material and high speed steel tooling. Inspect the pilot and cutting edges for wear before each use to maintain counterbore accuracy.
