The ALVORD POLK 00149 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-size drilled or bored holes to a precise diameter. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, it holds a 0.3745-inch diameter with a tight tolerance of +0.0002 to 0.0000 inches, making it suitable for dowel pin hole applications where close fits are required. The 7-inch overall length paired with a 1.5-inch flute length keeps the cutting geometry focused while the straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a drill press chuck, lathe tailstock, or CNC toolholder. This is a right-hand cutting, 6-flute tool in the Series 897-A-S line.
This reamer is intended for machine shop, maintenance, and production environments where precise hole finishing is performed on metallic workpieces. It is well suited for applications requiring dowel pin fit tolerances, where the hole must receive a pin sized at 0.3745 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank makes it compatible with standard chuck-style toolholding on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines. Coolant-through capability is not available on this tool, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is the recommended approach for heat management during operation.
Designed as an OEM-style machine reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines where a straight-cylindrical shank and 0.3745-inch finished hole diameter are required. Rated for dowel pin applications per the 897-A-S series specification.
Chucking reamers are installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals. Before mounting, ensure the machine spindle and chuck are fully stopped and locked out per your shop lockout/tagout procedure. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a drill chuck or collet with sufficient grip length to prevent pullout under cutting load. Always ream after drilling to a pre-reamed undersize - do not attempt to ream a raw casting or forged hole directly. Apply external coolant or cutting oil to manage heat and extend tool life, as this tool does not support coolant-through delivery.
