The ALVORD POLK 00087 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it produces accurate, smooth bores in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The reamer is sized to wire gauge No. 11, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.1910 inches with a tolerance of +0.0002 to 0.0000 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work. A straight-cylindrical shank provides secure seating in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this tool.
This chucking reamer is used in machine shop and industrial maintenance settings where hole sizing to wire gauge specifications is required. The 6-flute straight configuration delivers consistent chip evacuation and surface finish on through-holes and blind-holes at moderate cutting speeds. At 5.0 inches overall length with a 1.25-inch flute length, it fits standard knee mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers equipped with appropriate toolholding. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer in Series 897-A-S, suitable for use in drill presses, knee mills, and CNC machining centers with standard drill chucks or collet toolholding accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of the appropriate diameter.
Chucking reamers are installed and operated by machinists or maintenance mechanics following standard machine shop practices. Before mounting, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and isolated from power. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank squarely in the chuck or collet and verify runout is within acceptable limits before cutting, as excessive runout will damage the reamer and oversize the bore. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish.
