The ALORIS CA is a wedge-type quick change tool post designed for lathes with a swing range of 14 to 20 inches. It mounts to the compound rest and allows tool holders to be swapped rapidly without losing position, making it a standard choice for production turning and job-shop work. The CA accepts up to 24 indexed positions and holds repeatability to 0.0001 inches, which means tool height returns consistently after each holder change. The tool post height measures 6.25 inches, with a centerline height range of 1-3/16 to 2-13/16 inches and an overall height of 7 inches. A mounting wrench is included. Machinists and tool room technicians are the primary installers.
The ALORIS CA fits mid-size engine lathes and toolroom lathes with 14 to 20 inch swing capacity. It is suited for both manual production turning and precision single-point operations in residential shop, vocational, and light industrial environments. The wedge-lock clamping mechanism provides rigid tool holder seating under interrupted cuts and finishing passes. The centerline-to-handle-edge distance measures 9 inches, giving clearance from the operator side during tool changes.
Designed for use with lathes in the 14 to 20 inch swing range. Compatible with ALORIS Series CA tool holders. Verify compound rest bolt hole and centerline height against machine specifications before ordering.
Installation is performed by a machinist or qualified lathe operator. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before removing the existing tool post or making any compound rest modifications. The tool post is secured via the compound rest T-slot using the provided mounting hardware; confirm the 7/8 inch bolt hole aligns with the compound rest stud before tightening. Set centerline height by adjusting the tool post base to align the cutting edge with the lathe spindle centerline before placing the machine back in service.
