The ALORIS AXA is a wedge-type quick change tool post designed for engine lathes with a swing of 12 inches and under. It mounts to the compound rest and allows the operator to swap cutting tool holders rapidly without losing centerline repeatability. The wedge-locking mechanism locks each holder firmly in place across 24 indexed positions, reducing setup time between operations. The tool post has an overall height of 4-11/16 inches and a tool post height of 3-7/8 inches. The centerline height range spans 5/8 inch to 15/16 inch, making it compatible with a wide range of tool holder heights in the AXA series. A mounting wrench is included. This unit weighs 4.75 pounds.
The AXA tool post is suited for manual engine lathes found in job shops, maintenance departments, and machine tool training environments. It is the correct series for smaller bench and floor lathes in the 12-inch-and-under swing class. Machinists and tool room operators install this post as a direct replacement for or upgrade over standard rocker-style tool posts. The 24-position indexing ring allows repeatable tool placement across common turning, facing, boring, and threading operations without re-indicating centerline each time.
Designed for use with AXA-series quick change tool holders on manual engine lathes with a swing of 12 inches and under. Compatible with any AXA-series holder designed for the 5/8-inch to 15/16-inch centerline height range.
Installation is performed by a machinist or qualified lathe operator. Before mounting or removing the tool post, ensure the lathe is powered off and the spindle is locked. The post secures to the compound rest via a T-bolt through the 9/16-inch bolt hole; use the included mounting wrench to torque the nut firmly against the compound rest surface. Verify centerline height alignment with a reference tool holder and a dead center or dial indicator before beginning cuts.
