The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING TM28BSPP is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal and external BSPP threads on CNC machining centers. It runs 3 right-hand flutes at 28 teeth per inch and covers a cutting diameter of 0.2400 inches with a length of cut of 0.5720 inches. The tool carries a TiAlN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. With an overall length of 2.5000 inches and a 1/4-inch shank diameter, it fits standard ER and end mill holders common in production and job shop environments.
This thread mill suits machinists and CNC programmers working with British Standard Pipe Parallel thread forms in aerospace, hydraulic, and fluid-system component manufacturing. The helical flute geometry supports a single-pass or multi-pass helical interpolation strategy depending on the machining center's capabilities and the required thread tolerance. It is appropriate for threading small-diameter holes and bosses where tap breakage risk makes a thread mill the preferred tool. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the spindle is standard practice.
Designed for use with CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation. The 1/4-inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders. Intended for BSPP thread forms per the thread standard specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling engineers familiar with helical interpolation programming. Ensure the tool is seated and torqued correctly in the holder per the holder manufacturer's specifications before spindle engagement. Power down and lock out the machining center before changing or inspecting the tool. Verify thread pitch and diameter with appropriate gauging after the first article cut before running production quantities.
