The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING TAM2-34.93 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding applications. Part of the T-A Pro series, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and an AM460 PVD coating that extends tool life in abrasive and work-hardening materials. At 1-3/8 inches in diameter and a Seat Size 2 designation, it mounts into compatible T-A Pro spade drill holders to deliver consistent hole quality and chip evacuation. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this insert for precise, repeatable drilling in production environments.
This insert is optimized for primary use in stainless steel workpiece materials, classified under material code M. The T-A Pro series is a common choice in CNC machining centers, horizontal boring mills, and manual drill presses where replaceable-insert spade drills are preferred over solid twist drills. The AM460 PVD coating provides thermal and wear resistance well-suited to the elevated cutting forces associated with stainless steel and similar alloys. The insert ships individually and is intended for direct replacement into existing T-A Pro Seat Size 2 holders already in service.
Designed as a direct replacement insert for T-A Pro series Seat Size 2 spade drill holders. Specific holder compatibility should be confirmed against the T-A Pro series holder documentation provided by Allied Machine and Engineering.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the holder manufacturer — do not estimate torque by feel on carbide inserts, as over-tightening can fracture the substrate. Inspect the holder seat for chips, burrs, or coolant deposits before installing a new insert to ensure full, flat contact.
