The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING OP-090608-PW is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in OP09-series indexable drilling tool bodies. Built to grade AM300 with a coated finish, this trigon-shaped insert measures 9/16 inch (0.5625 inch) inscribed circle and carries a material grade of C5. It is engineered for high-performance hole-making operations where consistent edge geometry and wear resistance are required. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians install these inserts in production drilling applications on CNC machining centers and drill presses where repeatability and insert interchangeability are critical to cycle time and hole quality.
This insert is suited for drilling into non-ferrous metals and steel workpieces. Its AM300 coating provides the thermal and abrasion resistance needed for both light finishing and moderate roughing passes in these material categories. Typical applications include production-volume drilling in automotive, aerospace, and general metalworking environments where indexable tooling reduces downtime compared to regrindable solid drills. The trigon (triangular) geometry offers multiple usable cutting edges per insert, reducing per-hole tooling cost.
Designed for use with OP09-style indexable drill tool bodies accepting the 090608 insert size. Confirmed primary workpiece material compatibility with non-ferrous metals (ISO material code N) and steel (ISO material code P).
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the tool body manufacturer when seating the insert clamp screw — do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure. Confirm insert orientation matches the intended cutting direction before resuming operation.
