Product Description

The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C51T-0028 is a carbide spade drill insert designed for high-feed drilling operations in steel and hard materials. Manufactured to T-A series specifications, this insert features a 132-degree point angle that reduces thrust force and improves chip formation during deep-hole drilling. The insert is finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating to extend tool life by reducing friction and wear at the cutting edge. At 0.1563 inches thick and sized for Seat Size 1 holders, it drops directly into compatible T-A series spade drill bodies. Machinists and tool-crib technicians working in production machining environments will find this insert consistent with the T-A platform they already run.

This insert is intended for use in T-A series spade drill bodies and is suited for drilling into steel and hard workpiece materials. Seat Size 1 corresponds to the 7/8-inch diameter cutting range within the T-A series. Typical applications include production drilling in job shop, contract machining, and industrial manufacturing settings where repeatable hole quality and insert interchangeability are priorities. The fractional-inch sizing makes it a direct fit for operations already tooled to imperial standards.

Key Features

  • 7/8-inch cutting diameter in fractional-inch sizing for direct imperial tooling compatibility
  • 132-degree point angle reduces axial thrust and promotes clean chip evacuation
  • C5 (P40) carbide grade suited for steel and hard material drilling
  • TiN PVD coating extends edge life and lowers friction on steel workpieces
  • Seat Size 1 insert fits standard T-A series spade drill bodies
  • 0.1563-inch insert thickness maintains consistent seating and repeatability

Compatibility

Designed for use with T-A series Seat Size 1 spade drill bodies; optimized for steel and hard material workpiece grades classified under material codes P and H.

Installation Notes

Spade drill inserts are installed and removed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate T-A series wrench or torx key per the holder manufacturer's guidelines. Ensure the drill body seat is clean and free of chips before seating the insert, as debris under the insert will affect runout and can cause premature insert failure. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Follow your facility's tooling change procedure and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements.
