The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 7C212P-12CI is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling operations in cast iron workpieces. With a 12 mm cutting diameter and a 140-degree point angle, this insert delivers precise entry geometry and controlled chip formation in ferrous materials. It carries an AM300 PVD coating classified to Manufacturer Grade C2 (K20), which extends tool life in abrasive cast iron applications. The insert seats in a Size 12 seat and is part of the GEN3SYS XT series, a modular spade drilling platform built for production environments. Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC turning, milling, or dedicated drilling operations.
This insert is suited for production drilling in cast iron components commonly found in automotive, industrial, and heavy-equipment manufacturing. The GEN3SYS XT series is engineered for high-penetration-rate applications where insert changeability and consistent hole quality are required. The K-grade carbide substrate and AM300 PVD coating make this insert a practical choice when running through gray iron, ductile iron, or compacted graphite iron at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. It is a single-insert package intended for direct replacement in compatible Size 12 GEN3SYS XT spade drill bodies.
Designed for use in GEN3SYS XT series spade drill bodies accepting a Size 12 seat. Primary workpiece material compatibility is cast iron (K-category materials per ISO classification).
Insert seating and torquing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the drill body manufacturer torque guidelines for Size 12 seats. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the seat pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination will affect runout and hole quality. Always verify insert orientation and confirm secure seating before resuming cutting operations.
