The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 458H-0416 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. This insert measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter with a 144-degree point angle and fits Seat Size 8 holders in the GEN2 T-A spade drill system. The insert carries an AM200 PVD coating, which improves wear resistance and extends cutting tool life across a range of workpiece materials. At 0.4375 inches thick, it is built for rigidity under heavy drilling loads. Machinists and tooling specialists working in production or job-shop environments will find this insert suited to aggressive material removal at larger bore diameters.
This insert is engineered for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material classifications P, M, K, S, and H. It fits within the GEN2 T-A spade drilling platform, which is a common large-diameter drilling solution on CNC lathes, machining centers, and boring mills. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in aerospace, oil and gas, heavy equipment, and general industrial manufacturing. The seat size 8 designation must be matched to a compatible GEN2 T-A holder body to ensure proper seating and clamping.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A spade drill holder bodies accepting a Seat Size 8 insert. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the holder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedures. Ensure the holder body and insert seat are clean and free of chips or debris before installation to prevent improper seating and insert breakage. Machine spindle should be fully stopped and locked out before any insert change. Coolant delivery and cutting parameters should be set per the manufacturer's recommendation for the specific workpiece material being drilled.
