The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 456H-0314 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. Carrying a 144-degree point angle and AM200 PVD coating, this insert delivers controlled cutting geometry and wear resistance in production drilling applications. It fits the GEN2 T-A spade drill system at Seat Size 6, targeting a 3-7/16 inch bore diameter. At 0.4375 inches thick, the insert is built to handle the load demands of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron without deflection or premature edge failure. Machinists and tooling specialists in job shops, aerospace facilities, and heavy manufacturing typically specify this insert for high-volume or difficult-material drilling operations.
This insert is suited for use in CNC machining centers, lathes, and drill presses where the GEN2 T-A spade drill holder system is in use. Approved workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. The AM200 PVD coating reduces built-up edge and extends tool life in these material families. It is most commonly applied in production environments where consistent bore quality and insert longevity are priorities.

Insert seating and torque should follow the GEN2 T-A holder manufacturer specifications using the designated insert screw and torque tool. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the holder seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination under the insert can cause premature failure or bore deviation. This tooling is typically set up by a machinist or tooling technician familiar with spade drill systems.
