The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 455H-0221 is a cobalt spade drill insert engineered for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining environments. This insert measures 2-21/32 inches in diameter and features a 144-degree point angle with a 0.4375-inch thickness. It carries an AM200 PVD coating, which improves wear resistance and extends tool life compared to uncoated alternatives. The GEN2 T-A series design is intended for use in compatible spade drill holders and delivers consistent cutting performance across a range of workpiece materials. Machinists and tooling technicians handling production drilling operations will find this insert suited to high-feed applications where tool integrity under load is critical.
This insert is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It is sized for Seat Size 5 holders within the GEN2 T-A spade drill system. Typical applications include production drilling in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where large-diameter hole-making is required. The cobalt substrate provides additional heat resistance compared to standard HSS inserts, making it well suited to interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials commonly encountered in metalworking shops and manufacturing facilities.
Designed for use with Seat Size 5 holders in the ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING GEN2 T-A spade drill system. Suitable for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials per ISO classifications P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation and replacement of spade drill inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the holder seat is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the holder manufacturer to avoid insert movement or seat damage during operation. Inspect the holder seat for wear each time the insert is replaced.
