The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 455H-0216 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding industrial applications. Part of the GEN2 T-A series, this insert measures 2-1/2 inches in diameter with a 144-degree point angle and a seat size of 5. It features an AM200 PVD coating applied to cobalt substrate, which improves wear resistance and extends tool life when drilling through hard or abrasive workpiece materials. Machining professionals and tool-crib technicians working in production or job-shop environments will find this insert suited for replacing worn cutting edges on compatible T-A spade drill holders without replacing the full tool assembly.
This insert is intended for use in metal-cutting applications involving steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The GEN2 T-A platform is a common choice in production machining environments where consistent hole quality and insert replaceability are priorities. Typical installation scenarios include CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and manual drill presses equipped with T-A style spade drill holders of seat size 5.
Designed for use with seat size 5 GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per standard ISO material classification codes.
Spade drill insert replacement is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating an insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces on the holder are clean and free of chips or debris before installation, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature failure. Follow the holder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw, and inspect the insert seat for wear or damage each time an insert is changed.
