The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 454T-0218 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. Part of the GEN2 T-A series, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and a PVD-applied TiN coating that extends cutting edge life and reduces built-up edge in tough materials. At 2-9/16 inches in diameter with a Seat Size 4 designation, it fits Allied Machine GEN2 T-A spade drill holders and is installed by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC turning centers, machining centers, and drill presses. The insert measures 0.3125 inches thick and weighs approximately 0.1 pounds.
This insert is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is used in both job-shop and high-volume manufacturing environments where consistent hole geometry and tool life are critical. The GEN2 T-A platform is a common choice in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking applications where replaceable spade inserts reduce tooling changeover time compared to solid drills.
Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders requiring a Seat Size 4 insert. Rated for use in steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) as indicated by ISO workpiece material codes provided in the product specifications.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the holder manufacturer when seating the insert — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the holder seat for chips or damage before installing a new insert. Machinists should follow their facility safety procedures and applicable ANSI or shop-floor tooling standards when handling carbide and cobalt cutting inserts.
