The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 453H-42 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. Built to Seat Size 3 and measuring 42.00 mm in diameter, this insert features a 132-degree point angle and is manufactured from Super Cobalt with an AM200 PVD coating applied for extended tool life and heat resistance. At 0.25 inches thick, the insert fits into compatible GEN2 T-A spade drill holders and is intended for use by machinists and tooling professionals on CNC and manual drilling equipment. The AM200 coating provides a hard, wear-resistant surface layer suited to high-temperature cutting environments.
This insert is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It belongs to the GEN2 T-A series, which is a widely used platform in manufacturing, job shops, and aerospace and heavy equipment production environments where consistent hole geometry and insert interchangeability are required. The 132-degree point angle is well matched to harder workpiece materials where a sharper, more aggressive point geometry aids in chip formation and reduces thrust force.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders accepting Seat Size 3 inserts. Suitable for workpiece materials classified under ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), S (superalloys and titanium), and H (hard materials).
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the holder manufacturer when seating the insert to ensure proper clamping without distorting the seat. Inspect the holder seat for wear, chips, or debris before installing a new insert, as a damaged seat will affect hole accuracy and insert retention. Do not exceed the cutting parameters recommended for the holder and workpiece material combination.
