The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 452H-1.231 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. With a 1.231-inch (31.27 mm) cutting diameter and a 132-degree point angle, this insert provides accurate entry geometry and controlled chip formation across a range of ferrous and exotic workpiece materials. The AM200 PVD coating adds surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in production drilling environments. At 0.1875 inches thick and weighing 0.04 pounds, it fits the Seat Size 2 holder in the GEN2 T-A spade drill system. Licensed HVAC techs and machinists servicing CNC or manual drilling setups will find this insert a direct-fit replacement for high-volume metal removal operations.
This insert is rated for use on primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys and titanium, and hard materials — covering ISO material classifications P, M, K, S, and H. It is part of the GEN2 T-A series, Allied Machine and Engineering's modular spade drill platform commonly used in job shop, production machining, and MRO environments. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in structural components, flanges, and machined housings where indexable tooling is preferred over solid carbide for cost efficiency at larger diameters.
Designed for use with Seat Size 2 holders in the Allied Machine and Engineering GEN2 T-A spade drill system. Verify holder seat size before ordering to ensure correct insert fit and retention.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable LOTO procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the holder manufacturer — do not over-torque the retaining screw, as this can crack the insert or damage the seat. Inspect the holder pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Replace the insert at first sign of chipping, edge wear, or dimensional drift in the finished bore.
