The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 452H-1.046 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. This insert measures 1-3/64 inches in diameter and seats in a Size 2 holder. It features a 132-degree point angle and is manufactured from Super Cobalt substrate with an AM200 PVD coating for extended tool life and heat resistance. The GEN2 T-A series designation indicates compatibility with Allied's second-generation T-A spade drill holder system. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments where consistent bore quality and tool durability are required.
This insert is engineered for use across a wide range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is suited to both horizontal and vertical machining centers as well as manual lathes and drill presses where spade drilling operations are performed. The 132-degree point geometry provides good self-centering behavior and chip control across these varied materials. The fractional inch measurement system makes it straightforward to specify for standard inch-dimension bore callouts in North American machining environments.
Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering GEN2 T-A series spade drill holders requiring a Size 2 seat and a 1-3/64 inch diameter insert.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine powered down before changing or indexing spade drill inserts. Proper seating in the holder pocket is critical — inspect the seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before installing the insert. Follow the holder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications for the Size 2 seat; do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can distort the insert or damage the holder.
