The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 450H-.609 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Built from Super Cobalt with an AM200 PVD coating, this insert delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance when drilling tough materials. The 132-degree point angle promotes aggressive chip formation and accurate entry, reducing thrust and improving hole quality. At 0.125 inches thick and weighing 0.1 pounds, the insert seats into a Size 0 holder from the GEN2 T-A series. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production environments rely on this insert for consistent, repeatable results across multiple material types.
The 450H-.609 is suited for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO work material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The GEN2 T-A series is a modular spade drilling platform, and this insert is a direct component of that system. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling on CNC machining centers, lathes, and drill presses in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing settings. The fractional inch sizing makes it a direct fit for shops working to inch-based tolerances.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series Seat Size 0 spade drill holders from ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as identified by ISO codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool holder secured before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key specified for the GEN2 T-A holder to achieve proper clamping without over-torquing the retaining screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change to ensure accurate seating and safe operation.
