The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 435T-0231 is a spade drill insert designed for high-production drilling applications in metalworking environments. Part of the GEN2 T-A series, this insert measures 2-31/32 inches in diameter and seats in a Size 5 holder. It is manufactured from M4 grade high speed steel and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating that extends cutting edge life and reduces friction at the insert face. The 144-degree point angle geometry suits general-purpose through-drilling in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and tool-room professionals install this insert in compatible T-A spade drill holders on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses.
This insert is suited for production drilling in steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, covering ISO material classifications P, K, and N. The GEN2 T-A series is a widely used platform in job-shop and high-volume manufacturing settings where repeatable hole quality and fast insert changeover are priorities. The 2-31/32-inch diameter makes it appropriate for large-bore applications where solid-carbide tooling is cost-prohibitive. The insert drop-in replacement design reduces machine downtime compared to regrinding solid drills.
Designed for use with GEN2 T-A series Size 5 spade drill holders. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel (ISO P), cast iron (ISO K), and non-ferrous metals (ISO N).
Insert installation and removal should be performed with the machine fully de-energized and the spindle locked. Use the manufacturer-recommended insert wrench or torx key for the holder seat fastener to ensure proper clamping without distorting the seating surface. Inspect the holder seat for chips or burrs before seating a new insert, as debris under the insert affects runout and hole quality. This work is typically performed by a machinist or tool-crib technician following the holder manufacturer's service instructions.
