The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 24020S-003I is an indexable spade drill body designed for high-productivity hole-making in a wide range of workpiece materials. Part of the T-A 2 Series, this drill accepts interchangeable spade inserts to cover a drilling diameter range of 31/32 inches to 1-3/8 inches. It features a straight flute geometry and a 3MT taper shank for rigid mounting in compatible machine spindles. Through-coolant capability is delivered via a 2-radial entry coolant system with a 1/8 inch NPT coolant hole thread, keeping the cutting zone clear and extending insert life. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tooling specialists in production or job-shop environments.
This spade drill body is suited for general-purpose drilling in universal workpiece material categories including ferrous, non-ferrous, cast, and exotic alloy classifications. The standard-length body and straight flute design make it appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole applications where depths up to 7-3/8 inches are required. The 3MT taper shank mates directly to machine tool spindles or drill sleeves that accept Morse Taper No. 3, common on drill presses, lathes, and machining centers with taper-shank toolholders.
Compatible with rotary coolant adapter 2T-3SR. Designed to accept T-A 2 Series spade drill inserts. Mounts in machine spindles or sleeves accepting a No. 3 Morse Taper shank.
Installation and tooling changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Ensure the taper shank and receiving spindle bore are clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the tool. Coolant connections should be checked and torqued to the machine manufacturer's specification before operation. Follow the insert manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material being machined.
