The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 22020S-004I is an indexable spade drill body designed for general-purpose hole-making in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built on the T-A 2 series platform, it accepts interchangeable spade drill inserts and delivers drilling diameters from 31/32 inch to 1-3/8 inches with a maximum drill depth of 3-3/8 inches. The 4MT taper shank mounts directly into compatible taper-shank spindles or drill press quills without an adapter. Through-coolant capability is supported via two radial coolant entry ports with 1/8-inch NPT threaded holes, allowing cutting fluid delivery at the cutting zone for improved chip evacuation and tool life. The body is constructed of steel and is suited for short-length drilling applications.
This drill body is intended for use in machining environments where interchangeable insert tooling is preferred over solid drills. Typical applications include production drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, consistent with the universal workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H. It is installed in machine tools equipped with a 4MT taper spindle, such as drill presses, lathes, and machining centers with taper adapters. The short-length body configuration suits setups where minimizing overhang and maintaining rigidity are priorities. The rotary coolant adapter compatibility designation is 2T-3SR for shops using through-spindle coolant systems.
Designed for use with T-A 2 series spade drill inserts from ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING. Rotary coolant adapter compatibility: 2T-3SR. Fits machine tool spindles accepting a 4MT taper shank with a 1.2310-inch shank decimal diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully de-energized and brought to a complete stop before mounting or removing the drill body. Clean the taper shank and spindle bore thoroughly before seating to ensure full taper contact and prevent runout. If using through-coolant, verify NPT port threads are properly sealed and coolant pressure is appropriate for the machine tool before operation.
