The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C50A-0017 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance metal drilling applications. It measures 17/32 inch in diameter with a 132-degree point angle and carries a TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride) PVD coating for extended tool life and heat resistance at cutting speeds. The insert seats at Size 0 and is manufactured to C5 (P40) grade carbide, making it well-suited for demanding ferrous cutting operations. At 0.125 inch thickness and approximately 0.1 pound, it is a compact, precision-ground insert intended for professional machining environments. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using compatible T-A series spade drill holders.
This insert is engineered for use in steel and hard material workpieces, classified under material grades P and H. It fits the T-A series spade drill holder system and is commonly used in production drilling on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and horizontal boring mills. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in structural steel, alloy steel, and similarly hard ferrous materials where consistent hole geometry and tool durability are required. The TiAlN coating supports dry or near-dry cutting conditions and elevated feed rates in production environments.
Designed for use with T-A series spade drill holders accepting a Size 0 seat. Primary workpiece materials are steel and hard materials, per material codes P and H. Verify holder seat size and series compatibility before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench or insert screw driver specified by the holder manufacturer to secure the insert screw — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the holder pocket for chips, wear, or damage before seating a new insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for proper clamping, runout verification, and cutting parameter setup before resuming production.
