The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C2YA-.421 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. With a 27/64 inch cutting diameter, a 132-degree point angle, and a TiAlN PVD coating, this insert delivers reliable cutting performance across a range of workpiece materials. It fits the T-A series holder system using a Seat Size Y configuration. Machining professionals and toolroom technicians install this insert as a replaceable cutting element within a T-A spade drill body, eliminating the need to replace the entire drill assembly.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, super-alloys, and titanium. It is used in CNC machining centers, lathes, and manual drill presses in both production and job-shop environments. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance, making it appropriate for dry or minimal-lubrication cutting strategies common in high-speed and hard-material applications. The C2 (K20) carbide grade balances wear resistance and toughness for these varied material types.
Designed for use with Allied Machine and Engineering T-A series spade drill holders accepting Seat Size Y inserts. Compatible workpiece materials include stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), and super-alloys and titanium (S) per ISO material classification codes.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing the insert, confirm the spindle is fully stopped, the machine is powered down, and the tool is secured in a vise or holder to prevent rotation. Use the appropriate T-A insert wrench or torx key specified for the holder to seat the insert flush against the pocket; do not overtighten by hand estimation alone. Inspect the holder pocket for chips or damage before seating the new insert to ensure accurate cutting geometry.
