The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 1C23A-0120 is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial applications. Measuring 1-5/8 inches in diameter with a 132-degree point angle, this insert is part of the T-A series and is manufactured to Seat Size 3 specifications. The TiAlN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, making it suitable for dry or near-dry cutting conditions. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists install this insert into compatible T-A series spade drill holders for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses.
This insert is engineered for cutting stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, super-alloys, and titanium. It carries a Manufacturer Grade of C2 (K20), which indicates a fine-grain carbide substrate well-suited for abrasive and interrupted-cut materials. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in production environments where insert interchangeability and repeatable hole geometry are required. The 0.25-inch thickness provides the structural rigidity needed for these challenging workpiece materials.
Designed for use with T-A series spade drill holders accepting a Seat Size 3 insert at 1-5/8 inches diameter. Confirm holder seat size and series designation before installation to ensure proper seating and clamping.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver and seating hardware for the T-A holder system — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners, as improper clamping can cause insert movement or breakage under cutting loads. Inspect the holder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage each time the insert is changed.
