The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 15ZT-.484-FB is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial applications. This insert measures 31/64 inches in diameter and features a 180-degree point angle for flat-bottom entry and consistent hole geometry. Manufactured from cobalt steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, it delivers enhanced wear resistance and heat management during extended cutting cycles. At 0.0938 inches thick and weighing approximately 0.1 pounds, the insert fits Seat Size Z holders in the T-A series system. It is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals working with precision drilling equipment.
This insert is suited for drilling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium workpieces. The T-A series is a common indexable spade drill platform used in production machining environments including job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general metalworking. The 180-degree point geometry makes it particularly applicable where flat or near-flat entry conditions are required or where breakthrough quality is critical. The TiN coating extends tool life across a range of cutting speeds and feed rates on these workpiece material categories.
Designed for use with T-A series Seat Size Z spade drill holders. Compatible primary workpiece material codes are P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (super-alloys and titanium) per ISO material classification.
Spade drill inserts should be installed and replaced by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and seating procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Inspect the holder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or damage before seating a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and the holder manufacturer's recommendations for cutting parameters when machining super-alloys or titanium.
