The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 15YN-.421 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. This insert measures 27/64 inches in diameter and features a 132-degree point angle for consistent, accurate hole entry. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) PVD coating, it delivers extended tool life and improved wear resistance under high cutting loads. With a thickness of 0.0938 inches and a Seat Size Y designation, it is engineered to fit directly into compatible T-A series spade drill bodies. Licensed machinists and tool room technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for production drilling in ferrous and exotic materials across job shop, manufacturing, and aerospace environments. It performs across a broad material range including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling where insert replacement speed and consistent geometry matter. The T-A series platform is a widely used modular spade drill system, and this insert is a direct component within that system. It ships individually with a minimum order quantity of one unit.
Designed for use with T-A series spade drill bodies accepting a Seat Size Y insert. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys, and titanium (S) per ISO material classification codes.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly against the pocket faces before torquing the clamping screw to the drill body manufacturer specification. Inspect the seat for chips or debris before each insert change to prevent seating errors and premature insert failure.
