The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 153T-0117-FB is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding industrial applications. Part of the T-A series, this insert measures 1-17/32 inches in diameter and features a 180-degree point angle for flat-bottom entry characteristics. It is manufactured from Super Cobalt and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, which extends tool life and reduces friction at the cutting edge. The insert seats into a Seat Size 3 T-A holder. At 0.02 pounds, it is a compact, precision-ground cutting tool intended for machine shop environments and production drilling operations.
This insert is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, and S. It is a practical choice for CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and drill presses where repeatable hole quality is required across difficult-to-machine materials. The T-A system allows quick blade changes without removing the holder from the spindle, reducing downtime in production settings. Machinists and tooling specialists in job shops, aerospace shops, and heavy manufacturing operations are the typical end users.
Designed for use with ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING T-A series Seat Size 3 spade drill holders. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, K, and S).
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is secured or removed from the machine before handling the insert. Inspect the holder seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, and verify the insert is fully seated and fastened per the holder manufacturer torque specification. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements during setup and operation.
