The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 151T-20-FB is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. It features a 20 mm cutting diameter, a 180-degree point angle for flat-bottom entry, and is manufactured from cobalt steel for improved hardness and heat resistance. A PVD-applied TiN (titanium nitride) coating reduces friction and extends cutting life in demanding production environments. This insert is part of Allied's T-A Series, a modular spade drilling system where the insert seats into a reusable holder. It is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining operations.
The 151T-20-FB fits Seat Size 1 T-A Series holders and is intended for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium. The cobalt substrate and TiN coating make it particularly well-suited for harder ferrous materials and work-hardening alloys where high-speed steel inserts lose edge integrity quickly. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling on CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and drill presses running moderate to high feeds.
Designed for use with Seat Size 1 T-A Series spade drill holders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and super-alloys and titanium (S), per the material classification codes provided by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the holder pocket and insert seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before installation, as debris under the insert will cause premature edge failure or holder damage. Follow the holder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications for the T-A Series retention screw.
