Product Description

The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 151N-.921 is a cobalt spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. This insert features a 132-degree point angle and a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating that increases surface hardness and reduces tool wear during extended cutting cycles. With a seat size of 1 and a 0.1563-inch thickness, it mounts into compatible T-A series spade drill holders. It is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments.

This insert is suited for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium workpieces — covering ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. It is commonly used in horizontal and vertical machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and manual drill presses where the T-A spade drill system is in use. The 59/64-inch diameter makes it appropriate for applications requiring a precise, near-1-inch bore without reaming pre-stock removal.

Key Features

  • 59/64-inch cutting diameter for near-1-inch bore applications
  • 132-degree point angle reduces thrust force and improves chip formation
  • Cobalt substrate provides heat and wear resistance beyond standard high-speed steel
  • TiCN PVD coating extends tool life when cutting ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys
  • Seat size 1 for compatibility with T-A series spade drill holder bodies
  • 0.1563-inch insert thickness for precise seating and rigidity in the holder

Compatibility

Designed for use with T-A series seat size 1 spade drill holder bodies. Suitable for workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the spade drill holder is removed from the spindle and the machine is in a de-energized, locked-out state before inserting or removing the blade. Seat the insert fully against the holder pocket and secure with the appropriate clamping screw to the holder manufacturer's specified method. Inspect the insert seat and holder pocket for chips or debris before each installation to ensure proper blade contact and runout control.
